Mike Grella hailed the 2‑0 victory as a promising sign for Italian football after the Ciociari lined up seven Italians on Sunday.
Frosinone dispatched Como 2‑0 at Stadio Stirpe, handing Cesc Fabregas’ side their first loss of the campaign.
The club has suffered only one Serie A defeat—a opening loss to Juventus—and remains unbeaten in its last four matches, recording three wins and a draw.
Frosinone started seven Italians against Como.
Alvini started seven Italians, while Como’s starting eleven featured none from the peninsula.
“Fabregas claimed they’d love to sign Italians but can’t find any. Yet they’re all at Frosinone, who just beat you 2‑0,” Grella told the CBS Sports Golazo Show on Sunday.
“It’s a good sign for Italian football; young players showed up, ran past Como, and celebrated with real structure. Their effort paid off. For my money, their structure proves Italian youth can compete at the top,” he added.
“A 2‑0 win might surprise casual fans, but not when you consider the manager and the emerging talent on display,” Grella noted.
Last season Edoardo Goldaniga and Mauro Vigorito were Como’s only Italians; this summer they added Moise Kean, Mattia Liberali and Samuele Ricci.
At 56, Alvini secured his first Serie A victory as a head coach this season.
His previous stint at Cremonese in 2022‑23 yielded just seven draws and 11 defeats across 18 league games.
He earned promotion last term by finishing second in Serie B with 23 wins, 12 draws and only three losses.
