Spurs’ Xavi Simons Starts Harvard Business Course

Spurs' Xavi Simons enrolls at Harvard UniversitySpurs midfielder Xavi Simons begins Harvard course amid knee rehab.

Tottenham midfielder Xavi Simons has started Harvard’s elite business programme as he rehabilitates a serious knee injury.

The 23‑year‑old Dutch playmaker has missed action since tearing his ACL in April, a setback that kept him out of the World Cup.

Simons now joins, external Harvard’s Crossover into Business programme, designed to boost athletes’ commercial acumen.

Online, athletes work alongside Harvard MBA candidates who guide them through real‑world case studies and enterprise management. For my money, this blend of sport and academia could reshape athletes’ post‑career paths.

“I’m heading back to school,” Simons posted on LinkedIn.

During rehab, I’ve tried to make the most of my time. Football remains my priority, yet I also crave learning beyond the pitch.

“I’ve always cared about more than football. I aim to grasp the sport’s business, learn from other sectors and grow personally.

Simons recently flew to the U.S., combining intensified rehab with a tour of Harvard’s Boston campus.

“Returning to the field remains my top priority,” Simons added.

“Meanwhile, I’ll use this break to learn and invest in myself beyond football. I’m eager to begin.

Past participants span the NBA, NFL and tennis, among them former world No. 1 and two‑time Grand Slam champion Victoria Azarenka.

In June, Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga completed a short Harvard course on the business of entertainment, media and sport after missing France’s World Cup roster.

After retiring in 2014, former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson accepted a long‑term teaching role at Harvard. Will more football stars follow his academic footsteps?
