In a Kampo interview, French midfielder Maxence Caqueret looked back at the haircut he sported when he first joined Olympique Lyonnais.
News on Caqueret: while some French fans may have lost track, the former Lyon man has been shining in Côme, Italy for eighteen months. The U‑21 international isn’t a nailed‑on starter under coach Cesc Fabregas, yet he adds technique and work‑rate alongside French keeper Jean Butez and captain Lucas Da Cunha, who recently broke through for France. At 26, an age of maturity, Caqueret now admits a few youthful errors. In my view, his honesty adds charm to his profile.
A misstep
He laughed that his debut Lyon haircut—very short and tightly slicked—sparked plenty of unflattering comments. “It was a ‘Lyon‑style’ mistake,” Caqueret said on the Kampo podcast. “Almost everyone had that cut. I know it wasn’t pretty. No excuses, just a misstep.”
The topic still amuses him. Today his hair hasn’t changed much, but the rigid look is gone and he’s gained volume. “I don’t fuss with my hair,” the U‑21 international (24 caps) explained. “I used product because my hair is fine; without it it fell over my eyes. It became a habit.” He concluded, laughing, “But I have no excuse—it was ugly!”
