Roberto Mancini admits he signed a dual contract while managing Manchester City, just as the club battles a potentially career‑ending Premier League finance case. He also stresses that the looming scandal isn’t his problem. In my view, his deflection does little to calm the controversy.
Charges allege the City hid payment details for players and staff from 2009‑10 to 2017‑18. A 2018 Der Spiegel report showed Mancini doubled his £1.45 million base salary by consulting for an Abu Dhabi club. He guided City to its first league title in 50 years and an FA Cup in 2011 after the Abu Dhabi takeover, then was sacked after a shock FA Cup final loss to Wigan in 2013.
During Sunday’s press conference in Turkey before Italy’s Nations League match, Mancini was asked about the City deal. He replied it’s not his worry, noting the issue resurfaces every four or five years and that any double‑contract problem belongs to the club, not him.
