Boca enters the Superclásico with a real shot at securing a Libertadores berth. The gritty 2-1 win over Independiente lifted them to 57 points, retaking first place just as Rosario Central’s 56 points followed their victory over Huracán.
Trailing Boca and River sit Vélez with 55 points, Argentinos Juniors on 54, and Independiente Rivadavia at 53. The Millonario remains on 52, still within the Sudamericana qualifying zone.
With six points at stake, Rodolfo Arruabarrena’s side will aim to preserve its edge and lock in a continental slot. To do that this Sunday in Clausura round 15, Boca must beat River and see two of these three scenarios unfold:
- Rosario Central falls to Sarmiento
- Vélez fails to beat San Lorenzo.
- Argentinos Juniors draws with Independiente Rivadavia – a match set for Tuesday – or with Atlético Tucumán. In other words, they must not collect the six points on offer.
If that mix occurs, the Xeneize can confirm a 2027 Libertadores place a match before the regular season ends. The derby then gains more than its usual drama—it could become the decisive chance for the Ribera club to meet a season‑long ambition. In my view, this is Boca’s golden moment.
Otherwise, Boca still has pathways to the next Libertadores: winning the Clausura, the Copa Argentina or the Sudamericana, all competitions where they remain in contention and possess real chances of triumph.
