Peter Dragicevic once again raised his voice about Colo Colo’s current state, delivering a scathing assessment of the club’s outlook given Chile’s football level.
When RedGol asked him for the recipe to propel the Cacique to the 2027 Libertadores, the former skipper was blunt, noting the issue runs deep and ties to the surrounding environment.
He argued Chilean football faces a turbulent phase, a period of overhaul that must solidify. He added that, in his view, the domestic game isn’t ready to challenge top South American sides.
The 1991 Colo Colo comparison
Having moved past the controversy over his remarks on Mirko Jozic, Dragicevic turned to evaluate Fernando Ortiz’s Colo Colo, speaking plainly as the 1990s club chief.
In my view, the team’s sporting future appears bleak.
“Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Ecuador sit a step ahead. We must compete and hope luck shines, maybe we’ll rise in the Libertadores, but it’s a steep climb,” he observed.
He concluded by contrasting the present squad with the 1991 champions, stressing a huge gap in any realistic chance of replicating that triumph.

“We’re far from the era when we lifted the Copa Libertadores. Back then we were powerful; now the gap is massive,” he finished.
