Stuttgart dominate the opening phase.
The hosts opened the game brightly, forcing Jan Oblak into several early saves after chances from Bilal El Khannouss and Joshua Vagnoman. Angelo Stiller and Jamie Leweling tested the keeper, then Mittelstädt received a yellow for a challenge on Giuliano Simeone in the 17th minute.
Pressing forward, Stuttgart saw Marc Pubill lose the ball to Stiller near his own area in the 36th minute; Leweling collected it and curled it into the bottom corner for a 1-0 lead. Atlético grew a touch more lively before halftime but failed to create a clear chance, leaving the hosts ahead at the break.

Álvarez levels early in the second half.
Atlético answered instantly after the interval, swapping Jonathan David for Ademola Lookman. In the 47th minute Lookman cut in on the left and delivered a low cross that Julián Álvarez met, slotting home to level 1-1. That quick response showed Atlético’s depth.
Stuttgart reacted by bringing on Lorenz Assignon for Vagnoman, while Führich unleashed a curling effort that drifted just wide.
