Jets fire DC Steve Wilks after giving Jaguars 48 points in loss

The Jets’ defense has been miserable most of the season, ranking 30th in points allowed and 20th in yards through 14 games.

Sunday’s 48-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars was another frustrating performance by the Gang Green, which was sparked by Trevor Lawrence for five touchdown passes and 330 yards passing. New York also allowed 108 rushing yards.

The Jets have struggled on all three levels. Glenn’s D ranks 30th in QB pressures (72), tied for 31st in sacks (22) and has missed 95 tackles, sixth most. Through 14 weeks, the Jets haven’t had a single interception.

Wilks joined Glenn’s staff this offseason after a year away from the NFL. He coordinated the San Francisco 49ers’ last Super Bowl run in 2023, but was fired after the season.

Glenn’s move on from coordinator at midseason is the latest move that mirrors his former boss, Dan Campbell in Detroit. Campbell demoted then-OC Anthony Lynn midway through his first season with the Lions in 2021 and took over. Glenn hopes to achieve similar long-term success as he attempts to rebuild the Jets.

Wilks’ firing comes late in the season, as the Jets finish 3-11 with games against the New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills.
