The New York Jets have made a change at quarterback midway through Sunday’s Week 7 home game against the Carolina Panthers.
Jets benched Justin Fields for Tyrod Taylor after halftime 13-3.
The Jets scored after converting one first down on Taylor’s first drive under center.
Fields completed 6 of 12 passes for 46 yards and added 22 rushing yards on four carries, leading an offense that struggled to get first downs to 97 yards and three first-half carries.
Taylor’s entry into the game in the third quarter was not his first action of the afternoon. While Fields was evaluated for a concussion early in the second quarter, Taylor entered the game and held New York’s only scoring drive, which was set up by a turnover down the middle and a subsequent unnecessary roughing penalty by the Panthers.
The Jets signed Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract last offseason.
