James Rodriguez signs with Atletico Nacional

Will Rodríguez help Nacional clinch another league title?James Rodríguez, ex‑Real Madrid midfielder, joins Atletico Nacional, his 14th club and sixth since 2023.

The former Real Madrid playmaker James Rodríguez has inked a deal with Colombia’s Atletico Nacional, marking his 14th senior club and sixth move since 2023.

Medellín’s most decorated side announced the national team skipper’s arrival on Friday.

No announcement here—just work born of love for this club, daily, silent, to make Nacional ever greater.

The Colombia captain logged only eight games for Minnesota, the team he joined from Club León in February, and failed to find the net.

Despite hopping clubs, Rodríguez remains a fixture for La Tricolor, captaining Colombia in all five World Cup matches this summer. For my money, his leadership is still Colombia’s biggest asset.

He boasts 31 goals in 131 caps and now dons the colours of Atletico Nacional, current Copa Colombia champions and 18‑time league record holders.

Since early 2023 he has worn the shirts of Olympiacos, São Paulo, Rayo Vallecano, León and Minnesota, never quite hitting form, though his best spell came in Mexico where he led León with five goals and nine assists in 34 outings.
