Savannah DeMelo, US women’s national team midfielder, is suing a hospital and two doctors after a 2025 on‑field cardiac arrest.
DeMelo, a 28‑year‑old with seven senior caps, has lodged a negligence claim against University of Louisville Health.
The Racing Louisville star went down in the first half of a NWSL game on 14 September 2025.
The complaint says UofL Health and Dr Sarabjeet Suri plus Dr Jennifer Daily failed to act with reasonable care, directly causing her severe injuries and cardiac arrest.
Dr Daily, listed as Racing Louisville’s chief medical officer, oversaw DeMelo’s care from January 2024 through July 2026, according to her UofL profile.
In March 2025, Daily sent DeMelo to Suri for evaluation after she reported chest pain, dizziness and shortness of breath; Suri took her history, examined her and ordered tests.
Six months later the midfielder suffered the cardiac event.
The suit notes she was later diagnosed with ventricular tachycardia and received treatment.
DeMelo has missed every match since the collapse – for my money, her future hinges on the outcome of this lawsuit.
In an Instagram post Tuesday, the former 2023 World Cup squad member marked the incident’s anniversary.
She wrote that a year ago she collapsed from an undiagnosed arrhythmia that led to cardiac arrest.
She thanked fans for respecting her privacy and admitted the past year has been emotionally draining, leaving her uncertain about what comes next?
