Eagles' Jaire Alexander retires from football; CB to determine the game of the future

Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Jaire Alexander is stepping away from football to recover physically and mentally, NFL Networks insider Mike Garafolo reported Tuesday.

The 28-year-old CB will then decide his future after the break, according to Garafolo.

Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer first reported the news.

Alexander was acquired by the Eagles on Nov. 1 in a trade with the Ravens that involved swapping a late-round pick.

Before they had a chance to suit up with their new team, the Eagles announced that Alexander would not travel for the final win in Week 10 against the Green Bay Packers, as he had a knee/coaching decision.

It was in Green Bay where Alexander spent his first seven seasons, earning two Pro Bowl trips and making a name for himself as one of the league’s top cover players. All 12 of his career interceptions were with the Packers.

Alexander signed a one-year deal with the Ravens following a loss to Green Bay.
