Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears are each from different, but as disappointing to open the season. Detroit disassembled by Green Bay Packers, but Bears collapsed in a depressing way at home against Minnesota Vikings.
A bad loss of opening the season put even more pressure on each club for Sunday in Detroit, where Lions celebrate former striker Ben Johnson in town as an enemy.
“Ben is my friend. He will always be my friend. But nothing about that will change,” said Dan Campbell, Lions coach this week through Detroit News. “We go in and are ready to play Chicago. We’re going to win this game. We have to do it.”
Both clubs come into the week with the same mindset.
“No one will pity us. This will be a quick turn here to get on Sunday in Detroit, our first road game,” Johnson said after a loss on Monday. “We have to turn the page quickly here.”
Per NFL research will be Johnson’s first coach to “return home” in the first two games of the career as a head coach since Sean McDermott in 2017 (Billmott’s Bills played at Ron Rivera’s Panthers in Week 2, 2017; Carolina won 9-3).
Neither the lions nor Johnson looked good without each other in week 1.
The lions had a top 5 in total and scored a break every season with Johnson as OC. In Week 1, the club averaged 3.8 meters per game in Green Bay, the feet of meters/game for Detroit in the game since the 6th week of 2021, against Cincinnati (3.7), for the working time of Johnson as a playwright as a playwright
At the same time, Chicago floated at home and allowed 11 points in the fourth quarter to get away in Johnson’s first game in the big chair. For the first time a head coach found out that it is more than just calling a good game when you’ve got your head.
Johnson is fully aware of the type of reception he will receive in Detroit on Sunday as fans of Lions are sure to make it as difficult as possible for his offense to work.
“Maybe (silent cadence) will help this week. We will have to do it and we will have to be very good at it because this will be a high environment we are planning,” said Johnson during the media call on Tuesday through Mlive. “This will be a playful atmosphere. Ford Field has been something else in recent years, so we have to be at our best.”
The winner of Sunday’s Halla can feel better about his position. Since 1990, clubs that start 1-1 have made the finals 41.6 percent of the time. The loser club will have a steep floor to climb. Teams that start 0-2 have made the pursuit of 12.2%.
