Dak Prescott promises cowboy extermination won’t be “in this place” in 2026

Dak Prescott promises cowboy extermination won't be "in this place" in 2026

With Cowboys haters happy that Dallas will miss the postseason for the second straight campaign and 30th straight year without the NFC title game, Dak Prescott secured 2026.

“We’re not going to be back in this place,” Prescott said Tuesday, via ESPN.

The 6-8-1 Cowboys prepare for a Christmas Day battle against the Washington Warriors, who have lost three straight to sink their postseason hopes.

“I feel like the last time I’ve said that it was a playoff loss,” Prescott added. “Every year has its own troubles. Every year has its highs, lows, lows and flows and everything within that. It’s important to manage what you can … I’m going to do my damnedest, manage what I can and as you get older I think you’ll have more input, more say that and be asked more questions from the front desk. Maybe there’s a little bit more that I can’t do, and maybe I can’t do my part physically or better. It’s speaking up and saying that this will help or I think this can help, once again I’m going to do my best and make sure to influence and inspire everyone around me, not just the players, to do the same.

Prescott was selected to his fourth Pro Bowl. He sits second in the NFL with 4,175 passing yards in 2025 (4 yards behind Matthew Stafford). No Cowboys QB has ever led the NFL in passing in a single season. Prescott leads the NFL with 552 pass attempts and 378 completions (28 passing TDs – 3rd in NFL).

Although the Cowboys are out of the playoff picture, Prescott has no desire to sit out the final two deficits.

“Absolutely not, especially at Christmas,” he said, adding that he would fight with coach Brian Schottenheimer if there was any suggestion that he sit out.

“Especially now, going into this game, getting a chance to play on Christmas Day, for the first time and also just the fact of being away from my family,” he said. “I’m not trying to be away from my family if I’m not going to get to play this game and get to do something I love at a high level [and] finish off a good individual season, I guess you could say, with power … Fifteen games under my belt, I want to get to 17.”
