Definition of the thriller on Monday night between Jacksonville and Kansas City has become persistent content in Chiefs’ media meetings this week.
Chris Jones wants to continue.
“We have just finished,” Chiefs defender said Wednesday through the Associated Press. “We have to finish. Many guys where we just have to finish this game. It was a fluke game for him to be able to break so many tackles. Yes, I put it on us as a defense. We have to finish.”
The feeling Trevor Lawrence, who won games in the game, had to fall (after stepping by teammates), getting back up and leaving the left end and breaking a tackle when he escaped before delving over the goal line for the score. Throughout the play, Jones stood and watched, almost as he thought it was not even the smallest odds that Lawrence would produce contact from the chaos.
“I thought we had him many times,” Jones said after the loss 31-28 for Jacksonville.
Jones’s prerequisite that Lawrence would deal with was understandable. The play seemed to be judged from the moment when Vörður stepped on the foot of Lawrence and sent him stumbled into the turf.
But as Andy Reid coach said on Wednesday, there is no excuse for stopping completely.
“You can’t think the guy is down. You can’t think of it,” Reid said. “You have to play the play. He knows. He has been around this for a long time. It was really what it came down to.”
