Chiefs make assistant quarterback coach David Blough offensive coordinator

Blough, who joined the Commanders to help with the QBs in 2024 and has spent the last two seasons in that role, also enjoyed a cup of coffee as an NFL quarterback. Still only 30, he appeared in nine games (seven starts) from 2019-2022 with the Lions and Cardinals, going 0-7 with 1,435 yards, six touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Although he spent the 2023 season on Detroit’s practice squad, his last significant time on the field came in Arizona, where he played for Kliff Kingsbury — then the Cards’ head coach and Washington’s OC above Blough during both of Dan Quinn’s two seasons leading the Chiefs.

Kingsbury and Washington agreeing to part ways has now presented Blough with a great opportunity.

The forward’s offense struggled mightily in 2025, ranking 22nd in the league in both points and yards. The team couldn’t find a certified threat on the ground, while stars Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin both missed significant time with injuries in a year that saw Washington’s record drop from a promising 12-5 to 5-12.

Regardless, the Chiefs still have Daniels, the 2024 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, who boasts a sky-high ceiling.

Washington is turning to Blough to make sure Daniels gets it, along with the rest of the offense, hoping to propel the Chiefs back into contention after getting a taste just a season ago.
