Lost in these numbers is where Purdy made a concession to help the 49ers build up for their future. He is not the highest -paid team manager in the NFL and is in a row under six other markers on average annual value. As Purdy saw it, there was more value in preserving the 49ers’ ability to surround him with talent than trying “to take every penny for me.”
“I think since we ended up was exactly where we had to be,” Purdy said of negotiations with San Francisco. “I am extremely pleased with where we ended up and I know that Niners are too. By saying, for me this is all about football now. However, they use the cap and all such stuff, it is not my job. My job is going now and winning games and leading this team.”
Working is far from being guaranteed in this department, lessons that Purdy learned in 2024. When injuries hit those around him, Purdy felt Purdy was becoming increasingly difficult as 49ers limped in 6-11 finishing. Plenty of turnover in the roster has followed, the necessary result for a team that had to be sailed less than two years after reaching the Super Bowl.
Purdy’s negotiations may have provided the 49ers breath of fresh air within a temporary practice. Instead of worrying about whether they will keep the top goal as they did with Brandon Aiyuk in the summer of 2024, Purdy and 49ers received their contract with time to spare.
That alone should benefit them when they turn their focus on preparing for the period 2025.
“I feel like every year has been someone who was like a man, you want to do them and it has been pretty late,” Purdy said. “Whether it has affected the locker room or not, not quite sure, I don’t just want to identify something. But this year, to have the boys done and can get back to work and be around the boys in the locker room and built our culture and the standard in fact from the ground up with all the new boys.
