Brian Callahan admits he should have challenged an imperfect ruling on Elic Ayomanor catches

According to the NFL rulebook, a player must contact the ground on the way home with both feet or with a different body part than his hands.

Ayomanor’s elbows should have given the Titans the first transformation of 1 and 20. Game in 13-12 games deep into the third quarter. Instead, two plays later, Tennessee was known.

It is partly surprising that no one in the Titans store pushed Callahan to challenge the play. However, the coach took responsibility for the decision and his comments after that.

“I don’t want to,” said Callahan. “I am well aware of the rule, I understand how it works and how I shaped it after that was wrong. And I understand the rules of this game well.”

For a coach who came into the year who had to prove that he was the man to shepherd no. 1 overall Pick Cam Ward, Callahan stepped into the first game in 2025. From dubious decisions on playwriting to not challenge the explanation for not provocative, Sunday was not a good look for the second year of coach.
