Entering his ninth NFL season after joining his third franchise, DJ Moore doesn’t see the need to sugarcoat things this spring, even though so many do.
Just a few days into his new relationship with the Buffalo Bills, rookie head coach Joe Brady and quarterback Josh Allen, Moore admitted there’s plenty of work to do to get back on track.
“I mean, it’ll be perfect later, but right now it’s still growing pains,” Moore said Tuesday amid organized team activities, via Katherine Fitzgerald of the Buffalo News .
While Brady is entering his first position as an NFL head coach, he has previously coached Moore during their time together with the Carolina Panthers in 2020-21. Again, though, Moore admits he has work to do to get up to speed.
“I’ve got to get him back,” Moore said of Brady, who was hired as the Bills’ head coach this offseason after three seasons as the team’s offensive coordinator. “He’s won a lot more games than I have since Carolina, and his offense has developed into what it is today.”
Moore is coming off a three-year stint with the Chicago Bears, who traded the four-time 1,000-yard receiver to the Bills this season. Moore fell short of expectations in 2025 while the Bears climbed into the NFC North title position. He had a career-low 50 receptions and 682 yards, and unceremoniously came up with a route that led to an overtime victory for the Los Angeles Rams against the Bears in the Division I Bowl.
A fresh start with a perennial AFC heavyweight could be what he needs, especially since he looks to be Allen’s top contender in Brady’s scheme.
“Joe is just trying to get the ball in the hands of as many playmakers as possible and that’s what it’s been like so far,” Moore said.
It’s early and growing pains are to be expected. This is the time to stretch them out, anyway, along with getting to know his new teammates, which has apparently been going well so far.
“Everyone has been wonderful,” Moore said. “They’re friendly, like everybody gets along, so it’s amazing to see.”
