Nary a member of the New York Jets will likely look back on the 2025 season with many positives to realize.
For wideout Garrett Wilson, arguably the team’s most talented talent, it was definitely a season he’s looking to bounce back from, after sitting out seven games battling a knee injury.
“I have another standard that I just want to get back to, and that’s the mission,” Wilson said last week, via Randy Lange of the Jets team website.
The Jets had a terrible 3-14 campaign where they played 29th-ranked in offense in yards and points, but their defense was just as terrible (31St in points allowed, 25i.e in total protection). In their fight, the Jets also traded defensive backs Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams.
It perhaps overshadowed Wilson’s real derailment for the first time in his promising career.
The Jets’ same struggles — never winning more than seven games since joining the club — Wilson produced in each of his first three seasons. He was the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2022, marking the first of three consecutive 1,000-yard performances to start his career. He also never missed a game, but he missed 10 in 2025 as his 1,000-yard streak fell well short after he managed just 395 yards in seven games.
So it should come as no surprise that Wilson is looking to recapture the very high level he has set since being taken 10th overall.i.e overall in 2022 from Ohio State.
“So right now it’s just getting back comfortable with playing, getting used to having a guy on me running routes,” said Wilson, who last played in Week 10 last season. “Stuff that you can’t really simulate until you’re doing the real thing. I feel great, but as far as getting back to myself, I’ve got work to do. I’m excited though, I’m excited. It’s going to be a journey and, um … yeah, man, I’m not that far off.”
