Giants, DT Dexter Lawrence in impasse with contract negotiations; the situation that is likely to play out when the draft begins

Giants, DT Dexter Lawrence in impasse with contract negotiations; the situation that is likely to play out when the draft begins

Lawrence, 28, has two seasons remaining on a four-year, $90 million contract. With an average annual salary of $22.5 million, he still ranks 11th in the league and is coming off arguably his worst season, with a career-low 31 tackles and half a sack in 17 starts.

The 2025 season – in which the Giants went 4-13 and finished last in the NFC East – capped a streak of three straight Pro Bowl selections for “Sexy Dexy.”

There is unlikely to be a shortage of willing suitors, including possibly the Cincinnati Bengals, Chicago Bears or Jacksonville Jaguars. However, the team looking to add Lawrence would likely be on the hook for compensation sent to the Giants as well as locking up the dancing DT in overtime.

Lawrence was the 17th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft – moving up 11 spots after the Giants selected quarterback Daniel Jones, now with the Colts.

In seven seasons (109 games), Lawrence has posted 341 tackles, 30.5 sacks, 103 QB hits, 40 tackles for loss and 15 pass breakups.
