One Pro Football Hall of Famer and Pittsburgh Steelers legend is admittedly experiencing Aaron Rodgers fatigue.
Rodgers has yet to announce a decision on his playing future, much less whether he will rejoin Pittsburgh. Rod Woodson, an 11-time Pro Bowler who played 10 seasons with the Steelers, has had enough of the waiting game.
“Is he going to play? Look, I’m getting pretty tired of that,” Woodson said during a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show. “Listen, if he’s going to play, say he’s going to play, he’s going to come back. And the team shouldn’t wait for Aaron Rodgers. They need to move forward.”
Last year, Rodgers joined the Steelers after a disappointing two-year run with the New York Jets. However, Rodgers didn’t end up with Pittsburgh until June.
Saying he was “pretty sure” 2025 would be his final season shortly after agreeing to his one-year deal with the Steelers, Rodgers’ sentiments only changed as the season entered its final stages. So, the Rodgers wait is now up in March and the Steelers are in one of the darkest quarterback situations.
Will Howard and soon-to-be sophomore Mason Rudolph are the only QBs currently on Pittsburgh’s roster.
At the NFL Scouting Combine, general manager Omar Khan indicated the team was open to bringing Rodgers back, but hoped a decision would come sooner than last year. Rodgers later said there was no deadline to make a decision as he had received: “No contract offer or anything. So, there’s nothing I have to argue about. I’m a free agent. Again, I’m enjoying my time with my wife and enjoying this part of the offseason. I think there are conversations that are going to happen down the line. But right now, there haven’t been any advanced conversations.
Along with no conversations, there have been no updates since Rodgers’ March 4 conversations in his familiar surroundings The Pat McAfee Show.
Woodson would love to see his former franchise move forward after the delays and drama, but Rodgers has made him thrive under pressure on the field, and he’s unlikely to rush into any decision.
During his decorated run with the Green Bay Packers, which included four AP NFL MVP honors, Rodgers also had summers of indecisiveness in recent seasons.
“What is it about this former Green Bay Packers quarterback that has to be talked about all the time,” Woodson said. “Because Brett Favre was like that for years. Remember how we had to talk about Brett Favre, talk about Brett Favre.”
Regardless of whether or not Rodgers returns to the Steelers, Woodson knows the 42-year-old offers only a short-term solution. He’s upset that Pittsburgh didn’t solve its long-term problems in the 2025 draft.
“They should have taken Jaxson Dart,” Woodson said of the New York Giants’ starting quarterback, who went 25th overall — after the Steelers selected Derrick Harmon 21st. “He fell for them.
“And now, what are they looking for? That quarterback of the future still.”
In fact, the Steelers are still looking and still waiting for an answer at quarterback.
