Six-time Pro Bowl CB Darius Slay announces retirement after 13 NFL seasons

Six-time Pro Bowl CB Darius Slay announces retirement after 13 NFL seasons

A sticky defender, Slay used his 6-foot frame and physical style to bully receivers. The corner had excellent ball instincts, which allowed him to earn 28 career interceptions and 162 passes defensed. He also scored five defensive touchdowns – three pick sixes, two fumble recoveries for scores.

After seven years with the Lions, Slay was traded to Philadelphia in 2020 after falling out with then-Detroit coach Matt Patricia. Slay helped the Eagles reach the Super Bowl in 2022 and earned himself a ring with Philly in 2024.

The Eagles waived the cornerback last March and he signed a one-year deal with the Steelers. He appeared in 10 games for Pittsburgh, had three passes defensed, a fumble recovery and 36 tackles. The Steelers waived him in December and he was claimed by the Bills. However, he did not report to Buffalo and told the club that he was considering retirement.

Now the 35-year-old is making it official.
