Demario Davis hopes the third time is the charm in New York.
The Jets’ third-round pick in 2012 spent his first four seasons with the Gang Green before signing a two-year deal in Cleveland in 2016. After one year with the Browns, he was traded back to New York in 2017. The hard-hitting linebacker then signed with the New Orleans Saints in free agency last season and spent last season and 2018 with two Pro Bowl nods.
Davis signed a two-year, $22 million deal with the Jets this offseason as part of New York’s heavy investment in veterans, aimed at turning around a locker room off the rails.
Last week, Davis said he was “grateful” to be back in New York, adding that he had faith in “what’s being built” under coach Aaron Glenn.
“When I left here, I personally felt the project was a little unfinished,” Davis said Thursday, via the team’s official website. “This is the third time I go, but this time I come back very different, very purposeful, very clear in my vision, about who I am.”
“It wasn’t an accident. It was a choice, knowing who I am and what I’m called to be. I know what I’m stepping into this time. I know what I’m bringing to the locker room. I know I play the game at an elite level. I know every year I try to play better than the year before.”
