BBayern Munich beat Atalanta 6-1 in the last 16 of the Champions League and what should have been a happy night for the German side turned into a nightmare for one of its players. Alphonso Davies was injured again and his future in 2026 is somewhat uncertainas it could be a complication that will take him quite some time.
The Canadian defender has had a lot of injury problems and now, in 2026, he could be even more depressed as his participation in the World Cup could be in doubt.
Alphonso Davies was injured again
The Canadian defender, who was returning to action after overcoming an earlier injury sustained against Eintracht Frankfurt, had to leave the field in tears. The image of an inconsolable Davies has set off alarm bells in his home country, just three months before the start of the 2026 World Cup.
After the game, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl spoke to the media to give the first medical report and confirmed that it was a setback in an area that has already plagued the player in the past.
“Jamal Musiala’s injury is the least serious; it was more of a precaution. Davies is, unfortunately, another muscle problem” said Eberl.
Alphonso Davies is in a race against time
The situation is dramatic for the Canadian national team. As one of the hosts of the 2026 World Cup, the potential absence of its top player would be a devastating blow both athletically and emotionally.
Davies had barely added any minutes in place of Konrad Laimer and had even shown flashes of brilliance assisting Michael Olise in recent games. However, his muscles seem to have said “enough” at the most inauspicious moment of his career.
