Cowboys’ Stephen Jones: DeMarvion Overshown will be ‘great’ if he can answer injury ‘question mark’.

Cowboys' Stephen Jones: DeMarvion Overshown will be 'great' if he can answer injury 'question mark'.

Staying on the pitch is key if that big game is to come true.

After being taken in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Overshown missed his entire rookie campaign due to a torn ACL suffered in the preseason. His 2024 season was cut short by another knee injury he suffered in Week 14 when he tore his ACL, MCL and PCL, forcing him to miss the first 10 weeks of 2025.

Especially in the 2024 season, Overshown potentially flashed a lot.

While Overshown never saw the field in his first NFL year, his first NFL game saw him make 11 tackles, a sack and a pair of QB hits in a Week 1 win over the Cleveland Browns.

In 13 2024 games, he compiled 90 tackles, five sacks, four pass breakups and an interception returned for a touchdown.

Playing in just six games to finish the 2025 season, Overshown’s addition could do little to save a Dallas defense that was dead last in yards allowed.

“I think the biggest thing is that, availability,” Jones said. “Certainly no one wants to play the game more than him. I can assure you of that.”

If he is to find sustained success with the Cowboys, Overshown could also go a long way in being a lifeline for Dallas’ 2023 draft that has otherwise been a seven-round bust. Most notably, Dallas ’23 first-round pick Mazi Smith was traded to the New York Jets after two years of struggling. Luke Schoonmaker in the second round has been a solid No. 2, but after Overshown in the third round, Viliami Fehoko Jr., Asim Richards, Eric Scott Jr. and Deuce Vaughn on different lists. Schoonmaker, Overshown and seventh-seeded Jalen Brooks are Dallas’ only 2023 players still on the roster.

So, as his fourth season winds down, Overshown will look to stay healthy, earn another contract with the Cowboys and help improve a failing defense.

Jones is confident that if Overshown can handle the first case on the agenda, the other two should follow.

“Because I know how good he is and what he can do for us,” Jones said. “I’m excited about what he brings to the table. The only question mark he has is the injury issues he’s had and getting through a full year.”
