Jets hire Brian Duker as defensive coordinator

Duker replaces longtime coach Steve Wilks, who was fired Dec. 15 after the Jets fell to 3-11. Chris Harris took over as interim director and was interviewed for the full-time position.

In New York, Duker will be the defensive coordinator for the first time, but he is not expected to call plays. Glenn reportedly told D.C. candidates recently that he plans to take defensive play calls.

With Duker as assistant under Anthony Weaver, the Dolphins ranked 24th in points allowed, 22nd in yards allowed and 18th in pass defense in 2025. Those spots are better than the lowly Jets, who were 31st in points allowed, 25th in yards allowed and 17th in defense. New York gave up the most touchdowns (36) and recorded zero interceptions in 2025.

In short, Duker has a lot of work to do to turn around a defense that lost its two biggest names (Quinnen Williams, Sauce Gardner) in midseason trades last year and currently lacks an identity.
