Afterward, Bowles said he believed that after leading Tampa to three straight division titles, he had previously justified himself as the team’s head coach. The Glazer family, owners of the Buccaneers, agreed and decided to bring him back. Changes have been made though, namely firing offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard.
White was asked if he was surprised Bowles would return.
“Obviously, I’m not the executive in any of this,” White said. “I just think you get rid of a lot of the staff, you should just move on … and I’m not asking for nobody to be hired, but … get everything new. But I understand where they (Glazers) are coming from and where he (Bowles”) is coming from in the show probably like, ‘Yeah, another year. I won’t be a bad opportunity to see.’ Obviously we know what it is and everyone knows what it is about this year and what’s going on with him and go from there. But get a new staff so hopefully they can hire the right person, which is difficult. But you try to do the best you can and just see if you can go from there. I think that’s the biggest thing.”
Among the more surprising aspects of the Bucs’ struggles was the performance of the defense.
Todd Bowles D was a mediocre 19-year-oldi.e in meters and 20i.e in points.
So, maybe White’s idea of Bowles assigning the defensive play isn’t bad.
The quarterback recently completed his fourth season with the Bucs, who selected him in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. White recorded 132 carries for 572 yards and four touchdowns.
He’s not sure what’s next for him, but being so open about Bowles might not improve his chances of staying with the Bucs.
“We don’t really know where I’m going,” White said. “I don’t really know who wants me, if they want me back.”
