Raiders to use the safety of Jeremy Chinn as a versatile chess

Las Vegas Raiders Secondary School was hit when Tre’von Moehrig went to Carolina in a free agency. Raiders believe they have helped to deal with that loss by importing versatile security Jeremy Chinn.

“He has such an amazing talent for a man of his size,” said John SPytek’s chief of 6 feet-3, 220 pounds of security through ESPN. “And you love the intelligence and instincts that come with it.”

Since being composed in the second round of Panthers in 2020, Chinn has been a mobile chess work in college, able to set up as a line bakery, in a deep third as a free safety, or into the nickel corner.

In one year under Dan Quinn in Washington last year, Chinn was used for all formation. Per Pro Football Focus, he got up 470 times in the box as a line baker, 369 click as a free security, 222 as a slot corner, 106 along the D-line and 40 to a wide angle.

“He is like a big nickel,” SPYK said. “You love his size on the edge, his ability to blitz [and] Support the race. So he is a guy who can still fall and play as part of a deep coverage too. “

Chinn said his versatility was built for the first five years in the league.

“I think it started early in my newcomer season,” said Chinn. “Being just in a situation where I was asked to do a lot of certain things and just made it like this is the life of the NFL, as it will be a lot of different roles, a lot of different roles, a lot of different duties. So I just took it and cycled with the rest of the career.”

Raiders’ improved defense has a number of questions, including young crew in the corner. Ability to mix and fit wherever Secretary of Defense Patrick Graham needs assistance will be the benefit of Vegas.

“I feel like I can influence the game in many ways,” said Chinn. “In this defense, it is allowing me to do it.”
