Those expectations follow the Cowboys every year, but they haven’t been met since the 1995 season when the Dallas dynasty led by Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin won their third Super Bowl in four years and fifth overall.
Not only have the Cowboys not won a Super Bowl since then, but they haven’t advanced in the division race in that time.
Currently, Dallas is on a two-season absence from the playoffs and has not won a game since 2022 in the wild card round.
Despite the recent struggles, Prescott responded affirmatively that Super Bowl hopes are more realistic in 2026.
“Absolutely,” he said. “Obviously, every year you think that, but when you have a last year like we did, the offense we did, you make the changes and you have a great defensive coordinator … yeah, and we understand what needs to be done.
In 2025, the Cowboys were seventh in the league in scoring and second in yards on offense. However, the defense was a mess and finished dead last in points allowed.
Prescott believes the offensive talent and chemistry will carry over and be enhanced by the addition of Christian Parker as defensive coordinator and several new defensive additions.
It remains to be seen, but as training camp awaits, expectations are at Super Bowl heights.
Prescott’s answers to reporters followed up on comments he made live earlier.
He said he loved being a Cowboys player and loved Cowboys Nation because it’s “Super Bowl or bust.”
Unfortunately, according to that logic, Dallas has gone haywire for 30 years. To the credit of the four-time Pro Bowl quarterback, those Lombardi hopes, dreams and aspirations return at the dawn of each new season.
