The Las Vegas Raiders hopes they have composed their version of Julian Edelman in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL draft.
During the draft, compared to Tommy Mellottwas repeatedly compared to Edelman, the newly mentioned New England Patriots Club Hall of Famer, as a player who can transform the team manager to the Pro stage.
FCS Wonder, Mellott spent four years in Montana State and led Bobcats to two Big Sky titles and four FCS playoff games. Mellott won the Walter Payton award 2024 for the most FCS striker.
Although he was called a team manager when he was composed, the hope is that Mellott will play “toast”. He is expected to learn the receiver and also contribute to special teams. If he gets a seat on the active roster of the game, his throws could be a threat of tricks.
“I wouldn’t pigeon him now,” said Brandon Yearn, director of Raiders College through Las Vegas Review-Journal. “I would say that we look at him as a recipient who will have a lot of value in the kicking, possibly as a homemaker, as a front page, maybe playing a team manager.
The man known as “Touchdown Tommy” in the locals is in second place in the rush of touch (43), in third place in the rush meters (3,517), the fifth in the passing (53) and the fifth in the teams (5,810) in the history of Montana State.
Mellott’s headquarters received attention, including from Raiders, when clubs streamed over their sports profiles. Tom Brady, a minority owner in Vegas, first knows what was needed for Edelman to make a transition from QB to WR and produce at a high level. Raiders hope they can repeat that game with Mellott.
