Watt’s Strip Sack Sparks Replay Controversy in Paris

Will future replay protocols prevent such disputed calls?“Clear and obvious” may vanish in translation, explaining today’s Paris replay reversal.

Perhaps “clear and obvious” gets lost in translation.

That seems the only reason the Paris replay flipped what looked like a T.J. Watt strip‑sack on Saints QB Tyler Shough.

Watt struck Shough, jarred the ball loose and recovered it as they hit the ground; officials called a fumble, yet an expedited review changed it to a sack and listed Shough down by contact.

It didn’t appear that obvious, so the instant reversal feels unjustified; in my view, the review was a misstep.

Two plays later, the Saints slotted a field goal to knot the game at 3‑3.

Pittsburgh answered quickly, with Aaron Rodgers delivering a 51‑yard strike to DK Metcalf before tossing a four‑yard touchdown to Darnell Washington, his 540th career pass, vaulting him past Peyton Manning into third place behind Tom Brady and Drew Brees.

The Steelers now lead 10‑3.
