Ronaldo’s Sister Says Trust Gap Blocks Portugal Return

Ronaldo's sister highlights the main obstacle to his Portugal return and reconciliation with coach Jorge Jesus in an emotional statementRonaldo's international future grows uncertain after his sister, Elma Aveiro, gave an emotional interview about the ongoing dispute.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future with Portugal hangs in the balance after his sister, Elma Aveiro, delivered an emotional interview about the clash with coach Jorge Jesus.

Speaking to Lisbon reporters on Wednesday, Elma voiced sorrow over her brother’s treatment and wondered if a solution was possible. Her comments came after Ronaldo walked out of the national squad during the recent Nations League window, sparking disciplinary action and fueling speculation about his international prospects.

Elma admitted watching the saga has been painful, especially given Ronaldo’s two‑decade legacy with the Selecao. The captain, the country’s all‑time top scorer, helped lift Euro 2016 and the 2019 Nations League.

“I feel sad. Too often the Portuguese forget past deeds and demand change now,” Elma said.

“It left me speechless; the situation is tangled. Seeing my brother suffer is heartbreaking, because he deserves far less of this,”

“I don’t think so,” she answered when asked if Ronaldo wants to return.

“It’s more likely he’ll stay away than come back. Both sides are wounded, a stalemate persists. I can only speak for my brother, and the deadlock remains for now. Time will tell,”

“I have no clue. Betrayal makes it hard to revert to how things were,” Elma said, underscoring that rebuilding trust is the core obstacle to any reconciliation.

Will Ronaldo step back into Portugal’s shirt in November?

Despite the haze surrounding the national team, Elma assured fans that her 41‑year‑old brother is back in action with Al‑Nassr and feels both physically and mentally fit.

“He’s performing well and has already rejoined Al‑Nassr. His body is in shape and his mind is sharp,” she noted, adding that the dispute still haunts him, yet “he’s a great man.”

Jesus has previously said the door remains ajar for Ronaldo, stressing that the final call lies with the player. The November window, featuring matches against Denmark and Wales, could offer a chance to move forward.

Elma’s statements imply that merely settling the disciplinary case won’t guarantee a comeback; Ronaldo must decide if he can work under Jesus, and the federation needs to rebuild confidence. For my money, the trust gap will decide his fate.
