Olise was once again decisive, dazzling in the German Cup clash between Bayern Munich and Magdeburg on Wednesday night, under the watchful eye of new Ballon d’Or winner Harry Kane.
The Bayern playmaker struck twice and set up a goal, propelling Bayern Munich into the round of 16 with a comfortable 6-1 victory over second‑division side Magdeburg. For my money, Olise proved he’s Bayern’s next big star.
Having attended the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London where teammate Harry Kane was crowned, Olise opened the scoring in the 10th minute and later delivered a brilliant assist to Ismael Saibari for the 21st‑minute lead after Magdeburg had equalised.
In the second half, after a foul on Alphonso Davies inside the box, Olise stepped in for Kane and calmly slotted a perfectly executed Panenka penalty. The French international was subbed off shortly after stoppage time.
The other Bayern goals came from Davies (70′), Brown (73′) and David Santos Daiber (90+3′).
Kane celebrated for the first time. Will his triumph spark more glory for Bayern?
Before kickoff, Harry Kane was celebrated at the Allianz Arena less than 48 hours after his Ballon d’Or triumph, the first English winner since Michael Owen in 2001.
Three‑quarters of an hour before the whistle, teammates formed a guard of honour. The Englishman entered arms outstretched, waved to the crowd and then led his side to warm‑up with a grin after a brief ovation.
On Monday night the Allianz Arena façade was bathed in gold displaying “Kane”, honouring the club’s first Ballon d’Or winner since Karl‑Heinz Rummenigge in 1981.
Bayern are set to stage a larger celebration during Saturday’s Klassiker at 18:30 against Borussia Dortmund for Kane, who warmed up in both halves and at half‑time but did not take the field.
