Der Klassiker rarely needs an extra storyline, given its history and potential impact on the title race.
Can a single striker duel decide the title race? The classic clash at the Allianz Arena on Matchday 8 adds a fresh subplot with Harry Kane and Serhou Guirassy facing off.

Guirassy has twice finished runner-up to Kane in the race for the Torjägerkanone since the Englishman joined Bayern, before placing third last season. Yet finishing behind a striker who has redefined goalscoring standards in the Bundesliga is no slight against the Guinea international. If anything, it underlines just how elite Dortmund’s No.9 has become, even as Kane has made history by winning the award three seasons in a row before scooping the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

Across 141 Bundesliga appearances for Cologne, VfB Stuttgart and Dortmund, Guirassy has scored 83 goals, 67 of them in 108 games for BVB following four seasons in France. He also holds Stuttgart’s record for the most goals in a single Bundesliga campaign, having struck 28 times in 28 appearances in 2023/24.
He followed that up with another prolific season in Dortmund’s famous black and yellow, scoring 21 Bundesliga goals to become only the second player to surpass that mark in consecutive campaigns for different clubs.
Guirassy has made his mark in Europe, too, finishing joint-top scorer in the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League with 13 goals, alongside Barcelona’s Raphinha.

Guirassy netted 17 Bundesliga goals last season, landing him third in the scoring list. Already this campaign he’s scored seven across all competitions, hinting at a return to his razor‑sharp form.
“Strikers inevitably hit rough patches,” Dortmund coach Niko Kovač warned earlier. If 17 league goals signal a dip for Guirassy, Bayern should watch his resurgence closely.
Few forwards have terrified Bundesliga defences like Kane since his Bavarian debut. For my money, his mere presence unsettles any backline.
The England captain has been a seismic force, clinching the Torjägerkanone in each of his first three Bundesliga seasons. He’s recorded 10 goals in 12 matches this term, plus four assists in his opening seven league games.

Kane’s creativity matches his scoring, proving him a complete forward. Bayern boss Vincent Kompany recently praised his intelligence and influence throughout the pitch.
“He’s everywhere, making the right decisions almost instinctively,” the Belgian noted after Bayern’s Champions League clash with Arsenal.
In Europe, Kane has struck four times in Bayern’s first three Champions League outings, sharing the competition’s top‑scorer spot with Dortmund’s Guirassy.
His stellar year earned him the Ballon d’Or on Monday night, football’s most prestigious individual award.
“Harry is an asset to Bayern and any club worldwide,” sport board member Max Eberl said. “He leads on the field and in the dressing room, earning daily respect. This title rewards his impressive career achievements overall.”
