Harry Kane just equaled England’s all‑time appearance mark, earning his 125th cap against Czechia in the Nations League on Tuesday.
The Bayern striker, who also set the national scoring record with 91 goals in a 3‑0 win, now shares the appearance tally with legendary keeper Peter Shilton.
‘It’s an incredible moment,’ Kane said to UEFA after the match. ‘I’m extremely proud to share the record. Thanks to every teammate and staff member who helped me get here. It’s a fitting way to finish the camp.’
Kane debuted for England versus Lithuania in March 2015, finding the net minutes after coming on in a 4‑0 triumph. Since then he has featured at six major tournaments, reached two Euro finals and two World Cup semi‑finals, and claimed the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
He heads back to Bayern this weekend as the squad travels to Augsburg for Matchday 5 of the Bundesliga. For my money, his return fuels Bayern’s title ambitions.
The striker has started the season brightly, scoring 12 times in 11 outings for club and country. His 73 goals this campaign put him firmly in the race for a first Ballon d’Or.
