McCarthy said Tuesday that Rodgers is in a “very positive space” and that he and his former quarterback have spoken regularly this offseason since McCarthy took the Steelers job.
“So he’s very involved with what’s going on,” McCarthy said Monday, via ESPN . “… We just keep engaging in conversations.”
Rodgers, 42, played well at times in his first season with the Steelers in 2025, throwing 24 touchdowns and just seven interceptions, leading Pittsburgh into the postseason. But they were wiped out by the Texans in the Wild Card round, which led to Mike Tomlin being ousted and Rodgers’ future unclear.
Still, recent signs seem relatively positive for Rodgers’ return and 22nd NFL season — either that or the Steelers didn’t seem concerned. Other quarterbacks on the roster include Mason Rudolph and 2025 sixth-string quarterback Will Howard, who McCarthy said is “definitely a real possibility as a starter.”
