Sean McVay on the Day of Cutting: "You want to have appropriate sympathy" and be honest with players

NFL clubs are obliged to cut down on the roster from 90 to 53 players before 16:00 ET on Tuesday, which means approx. 1,100 people will lose jobs throughout the process.

With the cuts that were already underway following the end of the season, Sean McVay, Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay, was asked what his messages were for players who were close to making the roster but still had to fight to be in the NFL.

“The thing is real clarity with the feedback, you know,” he said on Monday. “If you have enough of these boys, you want to be honest with them. You want to have the appropriate sympathy and tell them that the first thing we always try to do is to make sure it is gratitude and gratitude for the work they put in. If this means this can try to do.

Cut today underlines the brutal part of professional football. The job is not for everyone and for most people it is not a long -term option. The best organization uses sympathy for the young men who are the NFL trip in the end, or weigh on the edge.

After cuts, some players land in training teams. Teams can register for 16 players, including six ceasefire days without experience. The rest must have two or fewer accrued seasons. Clubs with an international participant in a player can add 17. Exercise players can participate in the 53 -person project register of each team at any time.

If it is released will be the ceasefire – players with at least four years of experience – immediately unrestricted free agents. Some clubs will release a former soldier with the intention of signing him again after cuts go through to avoid putting a younger player on a waiver that could be hanging.

Players with fewer than four years of experience are dependent on sale where teams can make claims. Players are awarded clubs based on the draft appointment last year – Tennessee Titans receives no. 1 claim. A player must be required for a 53 -person project register and paid for a minimum of three weeks. After the waiver period is closed, all players who are not non -claims are free agents.

Although the season is completed for most players who are placed on a reserve fund for the injured person before it is cut, clubs can put a maximum of two players on the IR before the final cuts and still allow them to return during the season. They have to miss at least four games before they are eligible to return. After the first 53 -person roster is formed, a team can put more players on the reserve fund. Up to eight players can be named to return from the IR during the season.

Players in the reserve team/physical cannot make a list do not count against the 53 -person roster, but miss the first four games of the team. A non -football injury list or sicklist (NFI) is similar to the PUP list, which is used for players who have suffered injuries or disorders outside NFL activities. Players at NFI must also miss at least the first four weeks.
