Romeo Doubs would 'love' to have AJ Brown in New England, even if it means a different role for new Patriots WR

When Romeo Doubs signed with New England, he was seen as a replacement for Stefon Diggs. Doubs would presumably be in line for bigger numbers than he saw in Green Bay’s crowded crew.

Then AJ Brown reports picked up steam.

While there has been no confirmation that the Patriots will claim Brown in a trade from the Philadelphia Eagles after June 1, it has been assumed that the trade would eventually happen. If that happens, that’s fine with Doubs.

The fifth-year pro said he’d be happy to play alongside Brown, if a trade happens, even if it means a different role than he initially envisioned.

“I kept my word coming in here that there’s no number one in this offense,” Doubs said, via Mass Live . “So, whatever it is that I need to do, whether it’s playing more on the strength side or playing on the back here and now, or even having a (rotational role), which I know very well because I’ve done it in Green Bay as well. I’m open to any role. It’s just part of this league. You know, the more you can do, the more you can do for the team, the more you can do for yourself.”

Doubs had a career-high 724 yards on 55 catches with six touchdowns in 2025. Given his proven ability to fill different roles in the offense, Doubs should be a seamless fit if Brown joins New England.

“I have a ton of respect for him,” Doubs said. “I mean, he’s been a guy in this league for quite a while. I understand that when he first came into the league, coach (Mike) Vrabel was his coach. So again, I understand there’s a lot of rumors going around. If he’s here, I’d love to have him here, and if he’s not here, I’m still going to wish him the best week this week.”

If the Brown trade goes down in smoke, Doubs would represent the Pats’ top receiver ahead of the likes of Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, Demario Douglas and others.
