Norway may already have an eye on potential results as Senegal battle to stay alive in the second round of group matches at the 2026 World Cup.
After a confident 4-1 win over Iraq in their opener, Norway all but secured their place in the knockout stages. However, easing off the accelerator is not an option with two much tougher tests to come. A win over Senegal would set up Ståle Solbakken’s men for a direct shoot-out with France for top spot in Group I in the final round.
Meanwhile, Senegal went toe-to-toe with France but found themselves blown out of the water by a truly world-class attack. Another defeat would leave Pape Thiaw’s side in a very precarious position.
While three points from three games could ultimately be enough to qualify for this more lenient World Cup format, Senegal will not want to rely on a big score against Iraq to finish as one of the best teams in third place.

After a goal-laden qualifying campaign, Norway continued their thirst for goals against Iraq and boast one of the tournament’s most fearsome strikers in Erling Haaland.
Senegal are no slouch when it comes to attacking talent either. Despite falling short against France, the sacked African Cup of Nations champions will likely continue to see this – and every game they play this summer – as a winner.
This meeting of two of the dark horses of the pre-tournament may end, but it is unlikely to be boring.
Erling Haaland is inevitable: the Manchester City superstar has scored in 11 consecutive games for Norway and boasts a hard-to-believe record of 57 goals in 51 games for his country. Appearances retention: In three previous finals appearances, Senegal have failed to reach the knockout stage just once (2018).

With no fresh injury problems to speak of, Norway are likely to have the same squad that sent out Iraq. That means Leo Østigård, who came off the bench to score just his second international goal at the Gillette Stadium, will have the brief from the start.
However, string-pulling boss Martin Ødegaard can expect a much tougher midfield battle in this match given the quality of Senegal’s midfield.

Defeat in France should not prompt Thiaw to make any drastic changes, with the experience valued for a potentially pivotal encounter.
Senegal have the luxury of being able to call on the likes of Ibrahim Mbaye – who scored against France – and Iliman Ndiaye from the bench, and Crystal Palace’s Ismaïla Sarr could fear for his place on the right after spurning a few chances against Les Bleus.
