For the first time ever, a Monday will host the full Sports Equinox. It kicks off today, October 26, 2026. Get ready for the ultimate fan marathon.
What exactly is the Sports Equinox?
Baseball’s World Series already clears Monday nights, but tonight the NFL, NBA and NHL also take the field, turning the day into a true Sports Equinox. Check the full schedule here.
Typically landing in October, the Equinox aligns the NBA’s season start with baseball’s World Series. Leagues such as MLS, NWSL and the WNBA may join, though they aren’t required.
The inaugural Equinox fell on October 17, 1971; today marks the 33rd occurrence in sports lore.
What sets the 2026 Equinox apart?
- This Equinox will be the first ever held on October 26.
- October 27 and November 1 share the record for most Equinoxes, each with three occurrences.
- Monday accounts for just 18.2% of Equinoxes, making it the rarest weekday, while Sunday covers over 62%.
- Even though Monday is uncommon, the last four Equinoxes—including this one—have all fallen on a Monday. Will next year keep this Monday momentum?
