Choosing Kanzler would defy expectations. The 33‑year‑old lacks the résumé of Esp Espada or Chris Baldelli. Espada just finished a three‑year stint managing the Astros, while Baldelli led the Twins from 2019 through 2025 before joining the Dodgers as a special assistant to Andrew Friedman in December.
Mariners also considered Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo, but he re‑signed there. Jerry Dipoto said Seattle wants an experienced hand while still craving new ideas. In my view, a daring appointment could spark the franchise.
