Lions GM Brad Holmes open to moving star RT Penei Sewell to LT: 'You always have that flexibility'

Earlier in the interview, Holmes raved about what he saw from Borom at right tackle in 11 starts for Miami in 2025, comments that fuel the idea that Sewell could move to LT.

“Seeing what (Borom) did at Miami, especially at right tackle, and then you start looking at the film and it’s like, ‘Man, that’s probably the most consistent ball I’ve ever seen him play,'” Holmes said. “Then you start to delve deeper into him at right tackle, even in the past, and you start to see that level of consistency against the guard spots or the left tackle spots. Not saying he can’t play those spots as well, because he can, but that’s what held him up for us.”

The Lions signed Borom to a one-year, $5 million contract.

At this point, there’s no need for Holmes to declare how the Lions’ tackle position will ultimately shake out come September. However, barring any further additions, whether through free agency or early in the 2026 NFL Draft, the comments suggest Sewell is a good bet at No. 1 to left tackle.

Holmes later added that while he would “never say never” about a reunion with Decker, who remains a free agent, he has not had any recent discussions about bringing the veteran back to Detroit.
