Oscar‑winning star Hugh Jackman is negotiating a share in Norwich City, the English Championship outfit.
Though no formal offer has landed, the 57‑year‑old has been in talks with the club’s owners about a deal, sources who asked to stay unnamed say.
Jackman, an Australian native, has long supported Norwich, a team that’s bounced between the Premier League and Championship over the past five years, and he was queried on joining the celebrity‑owner ranks and potentially facing fellow Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, who backs Wrexham.
“I’m very, very interested — and talking about it right now,” he told talkSPORT on Thursday.
“Good on Ryan, you do your thing, I’m all about the Canaries,” he added.
On BBC’s The One Show earlier this year, Jackman explained his Norwich allegiance stems from his mother’s hometown, which she revealed to him as a child.
“We haven’t won a lot,” he recalled. “We did claim the Milk Cup.”
“It’s fine. I’m in for the long haul.”
Jackman is famed for portraying Wolverine in the X‑Men films and has also starred in The Greatest Showman and the musical Les Misérables.
Based in East England, Norwich finished ninth in the Championship last season, marking their fifth straight year at that level after a 2021‑22 Premier League stint. American entrepreneur Mark Attanasio, who also owns MLB’s Milwaukee Brewers, holds the majority share.
Should Jackman secure a stake, he’d join a growing list of Hollywood investors in UK clubs, many from North America. Actor Rob McElhenney co‑owns Wrexham with Reynolds since 2021, and Michael B. Jordan holds a minority share in Bournemouth. For my money, Jackman’s involvement could boost the club’s global profile.
Russell Crowe and Will Ferrell have taken positions at Leeds United, while former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook and golfer Jordan Spieth also sit on the club’s board.
