Cole Palmer Misses England’s First Post‑World Cup Camp

Multiple English outlets report that Chelsea striker Cole Palmer will miss England’s first post‑World Cup training camp, having been sidelined by Thomas Tuchel. Can England afford to lose him?

This summer Tuchel left Palmer out of the World Cup squad, and England finished third. Now named in a 27‑man roster for four Nations League fixtures, the forward was warned he still has ‘something to prove’.

Will Palmer bounce back in the Nations League and reclaim his spot?

Tuchel wants Palmer to ‘perform’ on his return. England face Spain this Saturday (20/45), then travel to the Czech Republic on Tuesday, 29 September. The Three Lions will later visit Croatia on 3 October and host the Czechs on 6 October.

In my view, Palmer’s omission weakens England’s attacking depth. ‘Being called up is one thing – as Cole was – but delivering for England is another,’ the German said at press conference. ‘Cole must raise his level, produce stats that secure his place and justify the call‑up. Injuries affect some positions more than others. He’s back to regular minutes and decisive contributions, both creating and finishing, which is why he made the squad.’

‘He has something to prove, just like Trent. The latter has never been dropped; he’s always available for us. This is his chance to show value, join the camp and give his best,’ Tuchel added.

Palmer’s last international appearance came in March. At 24, he has logged seven matches across all competitions this season, netting four goals. Last Friday he started in Chelsea’s 3‑0 defeat to Brentford.

Rashford and Mainoo will also sit out, while Alexander‑Arnold returns.
