The clubs association, formerly the ECA now called EFC, is holding its assembly in Copenhagen. A big surprise was Barcelona attending officially this year, led by Joan Laporta. Can Barcelona’s presence shift the balance?
Real Madrid still isn’t an official member of the association, having struck a deal with UEFA to re‑join European football and abandon the Super League, but membership remains pending.
Consequently, Real Madrid had no formal representation at the EFC Assembly, though it was indirectly present. Anas Laghrari, a trusted aide of Florentino Pérez, attended not as a Madrid delegate but for A22, the firm behind the Super League project. The EFC placed him in the second row, level with Laporta, just behind the executive committee members.
Anas Laghrari didn’t speak for Real Madrid at the EFC Assembly, yet his appearance may signal that Real Madrid is edging toward rebuilding ties with the 850‑club body chaired by Al Khelaïfi.
