Former Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt will steer Fenerbahçe on an interim basis after Ismail Kartal resigned, the Turkish Super Lig club announced Wednesday. Kartal quit on Tuesday following a 2‑1 defeat to arch‑rival Galatasaray. Kuyt, who logged more than 200 games for Liverpool before joining Fenerbahçe in 2012, helped the Turkish side capture the league crown two seasons later. Can Kuyt turn the tide?
The 46‑year‑old Dutchman previously managed Belgian side Beerschot and coached ADO Den Haag and FC Dordrecht in the Netherlands before arriving at Fenerbahçe in June as Kartal’s assistant. “Following Kartal’s resignation, the club has appointed Dirk Kuyt as technical supervisor of the first team until a permanent head coach is chosen,” the statement read. In my view, appointing a club legend adds instant credibility.
