The first leg is slated for October 13 at 21:30 in the Bombonera, with the return match on October 20 at a similar hour. The series winner advances to the November 21 final in Barranquilla’s Metropolitano Stadium.
“We’re weighing every option – Sao Januario, Maracaná, Engenhao (Nilton Santos). Our goal is to play in Rio,” Vasco official Admar Lopes told reporters, noting Sao Januario’s capacity falls short of CONMEBOL’s demand.
All semifinalists must use a stadium that seats at least 30,000 fans. For my money, the 30,000 minimum is a harsh rule for clubs with smaller grounds, and the Brazilian side can’t meet it, prompting a forced venue search.
The host must also guarantee 4,000 tickets for the visiting fans, to be available at the Bombonera on the night of October 13. Failure would trigger a sanction from CONMEBOL for non‑compliance.
“It’s too early to release details. Based on experience, the CBF and CONMEBOL can intervene in the choice, and we expect updates soon,” the official added, noting a home‑ground shift could favor Boca. Will Vasco secure a Rio venue in time for the October clash?
