Rumors surfaced that the Sudamericana final might be moved from Barranquilla after clubs allegedly complained about the long trip, but Blog Deportivo reports the match is still set for Nov 21 at the Roberto Meléndez Metropolitano stadium.
The chief worry was the roughly seven‑hour journey to the city. Journalist Marina Granziera said sources close to Atlético Mineiro confirmed a meeting that covered logistics, security, hotels and stadium upgrades.
Reporter Juan José Buscalia added that CONMEBOL is already planning the final in Barranquilla, according to Blog Deportivo.
“Barranquilla will host the Sudamericana final, and that won’t change,” the Argentine journalist declared.
On Thursday the city hall posted photos showing how the renovation progresses, and Junior even held a training session at the Metropolitano.

Will future finals continue to be shifted due to logistics?
CONMEBOL’s history shows venue swaps happen under special circumstances. A final slated for Santa Cruz de la Sierra was moved to Asunción because of stadium issues, and the 2019 Chilean unrest forced changes. Likewise, the 2023 final ended up in Maldonado, Uruguay, after capacity and attendance concerns.
All signs point to CONMEBOL sticking with Barranquilla. For my money, keeping the final here boosts the tournament’s appeal. Service firms are already arriving in the city to kick off preparations.
