Can Dortmund finally topple Bayern at the Allianz Arena? On Matchday 8 they head to Munich aiming to keep their unbeaten run alive in the 2026/27 season. With the league’s toughest defence and a solid record in the city, Niko Kovač’s side see plenty of reasons to outshine the Bavarians.

Dortmund have enjoyed an excellent start to the seasonn, emerging as one of just two unbeaten teams in the division alongside Bayern.
Five wins and two draws from their opening seven matches mark BVB’s strongest league start since 2023/24, when they had an identical record before losing to Bayern on Matchday 9.
Indeed, Dortmund last enjoyed a better opening seven-match run in 2017/18, when they collected six wins and a draw. That consistency should provide Kovač’s side with plenty of confidence ahead of their trip to Munich, particularly given their impressive defensive performances.

Bayern may be netting goals at a feverish clip, but Dortmund have emerged as the league’s most resilient backline. The Black‑Yellows have let in just four goals in their first seven matches, sealing five clean sheets.
That defensive sturdiness isn’t new. Dortmund surrendered only 34 goals last season, two fewer than Bayern. This year they’ve limited opponents to an xG of 5.85—the lowest in the Bundesliga—and have allowed merely three clear‑cut chances.
Keeper Gregor Kobel is in stellar form, stopping 82 % of shots faced. Against a Bayern side already on 25 league goals, Dortmund’s organization at the back could be decisive.

Bayern are always a tough test, yet now may be the optimal moment to face them. The Bavarians lack their usual spark, having taken two draws after a season‑opening run of seven wins, and injury woes pile up.
Luis Díaz, a third of Bayern’s lethal trio, will sit out, and Jamal Musiala might join him on the bench. Aleksandar Pavlović and Manuel Neuer also carry niggles and, even if cleared, may not be at peak sharpness.
Head coach Vincent Kompany will also be absent, with assistant Aaron Danks stepping in again. All told, Bayern aren’t at full strength, and BVB are poised to exploit the gap. For my money, the injuries tilt the balance toward Dortmund.

Over the past 18 months or so, Dortmund have proven themselves strong travellers in the Bundesliga. They are, of course, without defeat away from home in the top flight this term, while they were beaten in just three of their away games in 2025/26.
They even ended 2024/25 with one defeat in six trips to sides amongst Germany’s elite, while they have kept clean sheets in three of their previous four away Bundesliga games. At the Allianz Arena itself, they have lost just one of the past three, too, suggesting they can give Bayern a real run for their money once again.

Dortmund’s defensive grit is matched by a suite of attackers ready to strike at any chance.
Serhou Guirassy remains the headline man; he’s netted only twice in seven league games, but four goals in three Champions League outings highlight his knack for big moments.

He’s also built chemistry with Fabio Silva, helping the Portuguese flourish this term. The Guinea‑born forward has set up both of Silva’s Bundesliga goals, and Silva’s four tally across all competitions already tops his total from last season.
Meanwhile, Maximilian Beier leads the squad in Bundesliga contributions, with two goals and two assists, and six teammates have recorded at least two goals in all competitions. Can Dortmund turn these contributions into a decisive victory?
